Maria ...in a nutshell.

Maria Lewis is from London, England. She used to be a local government officer by day and an aspiring writer by night. Now she’s a writer AND coffee shop enthusiast by day too thanks to her amazing husband.

She doesn’t like kittens, puppies or long walks on the beach. She DOES like action movies (especially if Jason Statham is in them), all things fashion and her sister’s home baked sprinkle cake.

A few FAQs

Where are you from? (Like where are you really, really from?)

Well, I’m really, really from the pre-gentrified East London Borough of Hackney! Back in the day when it was council estates, playing knock-down-ginger and Run Outs until all hours of the night. If you ever lived or hung out in an old skool council estate – then you know.

BUT. If what you really, really want to know is where my immediate DNA hails from – then that would be the sunny Caribbean island of 365 beaches called Antigua.

What do you like reading?

A Murder Mystery here, a riveting Thriller there. I’ve even been known to read a fantasy story or two (shout out to the Black Dagger Brotherhood!). I like a good book – “good” being the operative word (which I have learned is HIGHLY subjective.)

But in essence I do particularly enjoy reading books similar to what I mainly write – which is chick lit. Think Sophie Kinsella or Annika Martin. I know, I know, it’s probably “politically incorrect” to call it chick lit nowadays – it’s likely called something prim and proper like Womens Contemporary Writings blah blah blah. But do I care? Cos I’m still calling it chick lit. Funny, frivolous, fabulously light-hearted chick lit!

When did you first start writing?

Well, ya girl’s been out in these writing streets for a while. I’ve been writing for…what feels like forever. A hot minute for sure. A couple decades at least.

What made you want to write a book?

One day, I had a pen in my hand and a story in my heart and (cough, cough) years later One Girl & 3 Guys – my 1st book – was born.

Nothing more profound than that really. Oh…wait a sec! My Mother told me that one of my primary school teachers – Mrs Tanner – said I’d be a writer one day. So maybe it was destiny…

Do you like any other action movies apart from the ones with Jason Statham?

I like Marvel – the Infinity saga movies but definitely not the Multiverse ones. Marvel, get it TOGETHER! Smh.

I love all the Fast and Furious movies – apart from Tokyo Drift – that one just made me drift. Right to sleep.

Oh, and ALL the James Bond movies except ALL the ones with Timothy Dalton. He was just…not.

And let’s not forget what a badass Jason Bourne was in ALL of his movies. Then there’s the Mission Impossibles and the mini Netflix series The Night Agent and then there’s…
